Honoring the Legacy of Carolyn M. Jons

The
IASB Annual Board Awards celebrate the unwavering commitment to ongoing learning and leadership development among school board members and educational leaders. These awards are proudly given in honor of Carolyn M. Jons, whose dedication to education and service to Iowa schools continues to inspire and shape leaders across the state.
Carolyn M. Jons has had an extraordinary impact on educational leadership in Iowa. As a Board Development Consultant and Coach, as well as a key member of the Lighthouse Research Team, Carolyn has advanced the professional growth of countless school board members and educational leaders. Her service as an IASB District Director from 1987 to 1991 laid the foundation for her leadership as Vice President, President, and Past President of the IASB Board of Directors from 1992 to 1997, followed by her tenure as IASB Board Treasurer from 1997 to 1999.
Beyond IASB, Carolyn served on the Ames Community School Board for 15 years and was an active leader in the National School Boards Association (NSBA). Her contributions include participation in the Central Region, Leadership Conferences, Federal Relations Network (FRN), Resolutions Committee, Board Nominating Committee, and Annual Conventions. Carolyn’s work exemplifies a lifelong commitment to the advancement of education and the empowerment of leaders.
The IASB Annual Board Awards, recognizing individual board members, board teams, and superintendents/chief administrators/community college presidents, reflect Carolyn’s vision and dedication. Her influence remains a cornerstone of IASB’s mission to provide comprehensive training and support to Iowa’s 2,100 locally elected school board members, representing 375 school boards, 15 area education agencies, and community colleges.
