Iowa Drug & Alcohol Testing Program (IDATP)

IASB® collaborates with Medical Enterprises Inc. to provide the Iowa Drug and Alcohol Testing Program (IDATP). IDATP assists school corporations and contractors transporting students to economically and efficiently comply with state and federal drug and alcohol testing requirements for more than 6,000 drivers. The program ensures quality services statewide and provides updates on the regulations, sample policies and sample forms for ease in meeting the employer’s responsibilities to their drivers.

Q: Who needs to be in a DOT drug and alcohol testing program?
A: Anyone who holds Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or CDL Learners Permit, and operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) in any state.

A CMV is defined as a vehicle:
  • With a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 26,001 or more lbs; or
  • With the capacity to carry 16 or more passengers (including the driver)
If you have a person who falls into either category then you need to make sure that you have a negative pre-employment drug screen on file for that person before you allow them to drive for you.

Medical Enterprises can also help you set up a non-DOT drug and alcohol testing program for your people who drive but do not operate a vehicle in the above categories.
