Call for Student Talent

BoardCon, IASB's annual convention, is set for Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026! BoardCon will start with the Opening General Session at 8 a.m. on Nov. 19 in the Grand Ballroom of the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines. Once again, we're excited to make student performers a focal point of our Opening General Session. These students not only represent Iowa's tradition of musical excellence in our schools, but they set an inspiring and enthusiastic tone for the day.

Important Details

This year we are looking for a passionate group to perform the national anthem and three to four additional selections that will inspire our audience of Iowa school leaders. Please note, this submission is not limited to just musical groups, ALL types of student performances are encouraged to apply! Selections should include upbeat, lively numbers.

Application
  • Application deadline is Friday, June 19.
  • Student performers will be selected and announced in July.
  • Along with your application, you will submit a video recording showcasing your student performance group.
  • Performances can be submitted from any public pre-K through community college.
  • Districts who have had performers at the BoardCon in the last five years are ineligible (not including 2020).
Rehearsal & Performance Schedule
Wednesday, Nov. 18
Iowa Events Center, Grand Ballroom, Level 4
  • Rehearsal starts at approximately 3 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 19
Iowa Events Center, Grand Ballroom, Level 4
  • Rehearsal starts at 7 a.m.
  • Performance begins at approximately 8 a.m.
 

Additional Information

The audience will be comprised of hundreds of school leaders from across Iowa—primarily school board members.

The Grand Ballroom will be set with a large stage (48 x 24 x 4), two very large screens and round tables for the audience. The Iowa Events Center will provide a high-quality sound system that includes a limited number of microphones.

The Iowa Events center does not provide pianos, drums, music stands or risers. Please plan to bring your own equipment if needed.

IASB will reimburse $600 for any travel expenses accrued by the student talent group.
