Tell Your Legislator to Vote 'NO' on VOuchers!

ACT NOW! “Student First Scholarships” are being pushed through the legislature. But let’s call them what they really are—private school vouchers. Vouchers are the wrong public policy for Iowa and an inappropriate use of public tax dollars. Now's the time to make your voice heard and protect public education funding!

IASB's Vouchers Toolkit includes concise talking points to use with legislators, vital resources (including maps, a copy of the SSB 1065 omnibus education bill, IASB's summary of Governor Reynolds' proposed voucher program and a history of funding for private schools in Iowa and beyond) and shareable social media graphics.

Note: These webinars replace the training portion of Day on the Hill and are free for IASB members. The Virtual Lobby Days replace the advocacy portion.

Let your Voice Be Heard on IASB's Virtual Lobby Days

At Day on the Hill, the combined voices of hundreds of school board members advocating for public education ring loud and clear. This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, we will not be able to gather together at the Capitol to advocate. Instead, we invite you to join us for Virtual Lobby Days throughout the legislative session.

The next lobby day is Feb. 4 and does not require registration. It is simply a day designated for you to reach out to your legislator via email or phone on a certain topic.

Board Presidents: Join Us for a Webinar on January 28!

Building a budget is a complex process, and as the board president, you may have asked yourself some of the following questions: Have we had a robust discussion of our district’s educational and operational priorities, and are we putting resources where they are needed? Do we have a budget timeline and if so, are we following it? How do we best consider budget reductions? What is my role in shepherding this process? We’ll discuss these and other budget development questions with fellow board president peers and IASB staff. You won't want to miss this meeting where you'll gain key insights and new tools to use at the board table. The 5:30 p.m. webinar is designed for board presidents from larger districts, while the 7 p.m. webinar is designed for board presidents from smaller districts; however, board leaders from districts of any size are welcome to attend either webinar. These 75-minute webinars are free to members and recording(s) will be posted to the Recordings & Resources page.
