School Board Recognition Month Toolkit
May 2019 is School Board Recognition Month in Iowa, and this year's theme is 'Superheroes for Public Education'. IASB sponsors School Board Recognition Month each May to honor the volunteer board members who serve on Iowa's 330 local school boards, nine area education agency boards and 15 community college boards. These dedicated education leaders are true superheroes, without the cape. They serve their community and students without compensation; donate their personal time and energy to overseeing the direction of Iowa's public education system; and they positively impact our state by ensuring our future citizens have a quality education.
We encourage school districts, AEAs and community colleges to join IASB in celebrating School Board Recognition Month this May. You can help educate your community about the people who ensure that Iowa students are college and career ready. This month is a great opportunity to build community awareness and understanding about the crucial role of your local school board.
The following materials can help you launch a successful campaign recognizing the education leaders in your area. The toolkit below includes everything you need, including sample documents, social media tools and tips for celebrating. Through this IASB-sponsored campaign and corresponding materials, we hope to create awareness and greater appreciation for the tremendous impact school board members have on their students, schools and communities. We truly appreciate their volunteer efforts to ensure all children succeed.
