Webinar Series: The New Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL) and the Impact on Superintendent Evaluation and Goal Setting

The state of Iowa is rolling out new Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL), effective July 1, and IASB is set to help. We’re offering a slate of webinars to help your board team learn about the legal requirements of superintendent evaluation and to get acquainted with the new leadership standards. We’ll also provide guidance for a sound superintendent evaluation process and considerations for goal setting for the coming year.

The June and September webinars (Parts 1 and 2) are designed for the board-superintendent team and each will provide concrete information and suggested next steps for summer and fall decision making. One week after each webinar, we’re offering a bonus networking opportunity for board presidents to dig deeper into the shared information and related implications for board leadership. Vice presidents are also encouraged to join the webinar, and anyone is welcome to attend! These webinars are free for IASB members.

The New Leadership Standards & Superintendent Evaluation, Part 1

June 9, 6–7 p.m. & June 11, Noon–1 p.m. (repeat offerings)
School board members are required by law to evaluate superintendents. New changes to the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL), which outline performance expectations for school administrators, are coming from the State Board of Education and will directly impact superintendent evaluation. These changes in Iowa Code will take effect on July 1, 2021. Join IASB for the first webinar designed for the whole board-superintendent team to get an overview of the new standards, learn how they will impact superintendent goal setting and evaluation and consider steps for summer board discussion.
