IASB and the UNI Institute for Educational Leadership partner to offer the February ISFLC Conference, a 1.75 day professional development session for Iowa superintendents. Sessions are led by Iowa leaders with skills and expertise in identified criteria areas.

General Sessions will include a keynote from the Director of the Iowa Department of Education, Ann Lebo, and an interactive visit with state legislators who will join us via Zoom from the Iowa State Capitol. The intensive two-day schedule will allow participants to receive licensure renewal credit, SBO licensure hours and UNI Graduate credit. Track instructors will facilitate both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities.

Tracks

  • Track 1: Fundamentals of School Finance—This track covers all of the basic concepts and regulations of Iowa’s school funding system. This track is for someone who is relatively new to the profession or someone who simply wants to revisit the fundamentals of a complex funding system.
  • Track 3-A: Preparing & Presenting Your Budget (License Renewal Credit Option—15 hours)—This track will provide a complete review of the Aid and Levy Worksheet and assist you in making critical budget decisions for FY22. The instructors will help you analyze your district's current financial position and make budget decisions based on SSA and other critical factors. Track 3A is designed for those who are seeking superintendent renewal credit. Track 3B is designed for more experienced practitioners who do not need renewal credit. SBO credit is available.
  • Track 3-B: Preparing & Presenting Your Budget (Non-Credit Option for Experienced Leaders)—This track will provide a complete review of the Aid and Levy Worksheet and assist you in making critical budget decisions for FY22. The instructors will help you analyze your district's current financial position and make budget decisions based on SSA and other critical factors. Track 3A is designed for those who are seeking superintendent renewal credit. Track 3B is designed for more experienced practitioners who do not need renewal credit. SBO credit is available.
  • Track 4: NEW Leadership Camp for Evaluator Approval Renewal—This track will lead participants through a series of activities to explore components of an effective evaluation system. Using the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL) as the basis of the training (with conversation and resources to understand the new Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) set to be adopted in July 2021), participants will engage in dialogue and reflection around current practices and potential areas of growth as they implement evaluation processes. The credit from this track serves as the credit needed to renew Evaluator Training as part of the administrative license.
  • Track 41: Successful Referendums/Community Votes—This track offers strategies and provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges related to passing a Bond Referendum. Participants will be introduced to strategies and methods utilized in other school districts to promote successful bond referendums.
  • Track 42: REVISED School Safety/Crisis Planning & Mental Health Supports in Light of COVID–19—This track will cover topics related to physical and emotional school safety. Some of these topics includes social and emotional learning (SEL), mental health leaves and employee assistance programs for staff, managing teacher stress, self-care, and district climate. Learn about these issues using real-life case studies from guest speakers.
