Leadership, vision and unity. A board president’s job is complex and requires these essential skills. Whether you’re a new or experienced board president or vice president, IASB’s brand-new Board Presidents’ Conference can prepare you to effectively lead and support your board while remaining focused on the issues that matter most. Take time to build and invest in your leadership capacity with peers from across Iowa.

Conference Features

Create a Unified and Cohesive Board: Experienced board presidents say nurturing board cohesion is an ongoing process. In this session, you’ll discover opportunities that foster productive relationships and promote board unity. You’ll work through real life scenarios and consider guidance and insights from experienced practitioners and IASB staff.

Foster a Strong Board President-Superintendent Relationship: This important relationship sets the tone for the entire district. What kinds of behaviors and actions help or harm this partnership? How can you problem-solve tricky dynamics and situations when they arise? Together with experienced board presidents and superintendents you'll explore these provocative questions and more. You’ll take away strategies to build relationships, as well as tips on avoiding behavior that can erode them.

Explore Decision-Making Facilitation Techniques: All board teams are faced with making important decisions on complex issues. Through a fun and interactive process, you’ll learn effective facilitation techniques for weighty issues to help the board get to the facts, hear different perspectives and consider implications before making their votes.

Unconference! Self-Select and Discuss Pertinent Topics: We believe choice in learning is important and that’s why we are once again offering this flexible format. During our popular Unconference! session you’ll select the round table discussion topics you want to explore and problem solve with fellow board leaders and content area experts.
