Thriving During Your First Year on the Board
June 23, 6–7:30 p.m.
Basic onboarding skills for new board members.
Calling all new school board members! We’re offering a digital workshop developed just for you, packed full of all the essential basics to help you thrive during your first year on the board. Whether you were appointed to the board after school elections in November, or you were elected in November but couldn’t attend our Pre-Convention Workshop for new board members, we are officially inviting you to attend this condensed version on June 23. This 90-minute interactive digital workshop will cover governance 101, select IASB sample policies and meetings laws.
New Superintendents' Institute
Co-sponsored with the Iowa Association of School Boards, the institute provides new administrators the opportunity not only for learning focused on getting a solid start but also for developing their professional network. Superintendents who are serving for the first time in the role as well as for those who are new to the state are encouraged to attend.
Employee Relations Conference
Your goal is to promote positive relations with employees to encourage an environment that supports innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Just as important is the responsibility to maintain efficient, cost-effective organizational operations. This day-long conference features experts who will examine issues and help you be prepared.
Every school board's voice should be heard! The IASB Delegate Assembly convenes annually for three important roles: Annual Meeting, set the Legislative Platform and convene the nominating caucuses to select candidates for the IASB Board of Directors in selected regions.
75th IASB Annual Convention & Trade Show
The IASB Annual Convention and Trade Show is the premier event of the year for governance teams from Iowa public schools. You’re invited to join us Nov. 18-19 as we deliver powerful learning sessions and a state-of-the-art trade show that provides education leaders with critical resources.
Day on the Hill
Join IASB and your peers for the annual Day on the Hill for advocacy training, issue briefing and lobbying at the Capitol. Day on the Hill is a unique opportunity to tell your elected official your district’s story. Legislators say the most effective advocacy is hearing from YOU—you are the boots on the ground with vast knowledge about education issues impacting your district. Hear from legislative leaders about education priorities and what you can do to help move those through the legislative process.
