SBO Webinar Series: Building a Strong Relationship with the Board

The relationship between the board and the school business official (SBO) is key to improved budget planning and a stress-free environment so the board can focus on what matters most, student learning, and school business officials can focus on financial management. We're inviting all school business officials (especally SBOs new to the job) to join IASB for this free webinar where we’ll discuss how to build and maintain a strong relationship with the board. This informal discussion will include time for SBOs to ask questions. The webinar will be recorded and provided to all registrants after the event. Webinar participants earn five Better Boardsmanship credits.

The IASB Annual Convention
is the premiere annual event members look
forward to year after year. The 75th iteration of this member favorite
will be immersive, innovative and inspiring—and completely digital. The
Annual Convention kicks off on Nov. 10 with an in-depth evening equity
workshop, followed by Delegate Assembly
on the evening of Nov. 17. On Nov. 18–19, our luminary keynoters, Liz Murray
and Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch
will fill your leadership cup and you’ll choose from multiple education
sessions, networking time and innovative learning opportunities with

Assembly will be offered in a digital format. We look forward to this
important event, where members set the legislative platform, select
candidates for the IASB Board, and hold the annual meeting. More details

School Finance 101, 201 and 301 Digital Workshops

Our popular school finance workshops are back and better than ever! These workshops are normally held during Annual Convention in November. After we made the decision to hold Convention online this year, we opted to move the school finance workshops to December to accommodate your busy schedules. These digital workshops are two hours in length and will be held via Zoom.

IASB offers many tools to help both experienced and new school business officials (SBOs) in your day-to-day responsibilities. SBOs support the governance team in many ways—budget planning and monitoring, helping them understand complicated formulas and regulations, and leading them through long-term and informed financial decisions. Join IASB for this free webinar where you’ll learn about ready-to-use tools and resources that can make the demanding job of an SBO just a little bit easier. This informal discussion will include time for SBOs to ask questions. This webinar will be recorded and provided to all registrants after the event. IASB and the UNI Institute for Educational Leadership partner to offer the December ISFLC Conference, a 1.75 day professional development session for Iowa superintendents. Sessions are led by Iowa leaders with skills and expertise in identified criteria areas.
Day on the Hill
Join IASB and your peers for the annual Day on the Hill for advocacy training, issue briefing and lobbying at the Capitol. Day on the Hill is a unique opportunity to tell your elected official your district’s story. Legislators say the most effective advocacy is hearing from YOU—you are the boots on the ground with vast knowledge about education issues impacting your district. Hear from legislative leaders about education priorities and what you can do to help move those through the legislative process.
