Serving on the Board of Directors 

The Iowa Association of School Boards is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors, which includes officers as well as regional directors from nine Director Districts and representatives from Iowa area education agencies and community colleges. Directors serve three-year terms. The IASB President-elect is elected by the Delegate Assembly for a two-year term.

Candidates Sought to Fill Vacancy in Director District #6

Gary Anhalt, Cedar Rapids school board member and DD#6 Director on the IASB Board, passed away suddenly in February. He served on the IASB Board since 2019. Eastern Iowa school board members are being asked to consider applying for appointment to fill the vacancy. Under the IASB Bylaws, the IASB Board of Directors must appoint a person to serve until the next IASB election process in conjunction with Delegate Assembly in November, when members may elect someone to complete the remainder of the unexpired term (through January 2024). Review the responsibilities and board meeting dates in the above section. To be considered: Complete a Statement of Candidacy form and return it to IASB by Tuesday, March 16. Under the IASB Bylaws, members are organized into regions called Director Districts. This structure supports both representative governance and networking.
