Welcome back to a new school year and to Skills Iowa. The fall benchmark assessments in reading comprehension and math will be available  starting Wednesday, August 10, 2011, until Friday, September 30, 2011. The codes are available at http://www.ia-sb.org/skillsiowa/index.aspx?id=7872.

Reading benchmarks are given monthly (with Aug/Sept being the first) and rotate among three text structures: fiction, non-fiction social studies, and non-fiction science. Math is given three times annually;  fall, mid-year, and spring; and the math benchmarks cover the same curricular benchmarks during each testing window. Giving all of the benchmark assessments gives you the chance to see your students’ progress throughout the year and also helps you decide areas your students might need extra instruction and practice.
